One of those Dutch gems that most people outside Holland will never have heard of. The big artistic breakthrough for Dutch prog rock giants Kayak came in 1977 with the single Starlight dancer, the title track from their fourth album. The timing of this space mini-epic was excellent, as it coincided with the Star Wars mania. Musically, the greatest influence in this particular song undoubtedly was Queen, especially their Bohemian rhapsody, in the alternations of rock and ballad. It should have been a world-wide million seller, but in the end it was just a minor hit in Holland.
Art Rock score: 10/10 (brilliant masterpiece, one of 200 best songs of all time)
