Yesterday the Danish architect Jorn Utzon (1918-2008) died. He was responsible for the design of perhaps the most beautiful building I have ever seen with my own eyes, the expressionist Sydney Opera house - and I have yet to find a picture of it that does it justice. The beautiful shapes of the building have been associated with sails or shells, although rumour has it that Utzon was inspired by orange parts. Tragically, Utzon fell victim of a far too low budget during the construction, and had to resign before it was completed in 1973. He never returned to Australia and therefore never actually saw his most famous creation. More on this building can be found in the wikipedia link below.
