Today 28 years ago a deranged "fan" shot John Lennon. All over the world, DJ's with as much originality as imagination will be playing Imagine to mark the occasion. Let's try something else: the soaring Number nine dream from the 1974 album Walls and Bridges. More than any other John Lennon song, this one recalls the Beatles of 1967-1968, and although in general I prefer Paul McCartney's solo output over the other ex-Beatles, this is by far the best single post-Beatles song.
Art Rock score: 9/10 (very strong song, one of 650 best songs of all time)
