A new group on Flickr (Keeper Dozen '08) posted an interesting challenge:
Every day, millions of pictures are uploaded to Flickr. Every week, thousands of people receive loads of praise. Every month, hundreds of people notch up an Explore #1. And at the end of the year, we look back... and a few of our pictures stand out. A small number are significant to us. Keeper Dozen '08 is for the cream of your 2008 crop of pictures. Not your most viewed or most-faved. But the ones you feel are most meaningful.
I responded to the challenge and selected 12 shots - and this ended up being my number one shot of 2008. It was a beautiful October day in Beijing when during a stroll through the hutongs we came across a bridespair being photographed. Considering that they were shooting outdoors, I considered them fair game, and sneaked in a shot myself. And the end result really grew on me - from being pleased with it to considering it my best shot of the year. The title refers to the movie by Wong Kar-Wai, as well as its title song by Bryan Ferry.
