The Forth Railway Bridge - Then and Now

The Guardian has embarked on a fascinating project: a series of photographs taken from exactly the same vantage point at different moments in history. The first installment shows the railway crossing over Scotland's Firth of Forth during construction in 1887 and also in 2012. In the link, there is a beautiful gradual transition between the two shots, much better than the animated gif I made to illustrate this post.
