Creek Mary's Blood

Finnish prog metal band Nightwish has made a lasting impression with their mixture of metal and operatic vocal acrobatics by Tarja Turunen. Probably their strongest work is this track from the Once album, based on Dee Brown's novel of the same name. It opens seductively with flute sounds and an ambient choir in Native Indian language. The amazing voice of Tarja enters …"Soon I will be here no more. You’ll hear my tale through my blood …" The rest of the song includes great orchestration and flute work, and the song closes with superb chanting (once again in Native Indian language) and beautiful flute play. Great video to boot.
Art Rock score: 9/10 (very strong song, one of 650 best songs of all time)
