Ripped in February

A selected overview of culture stars relevant to my own tastes who passed away this month - glad to see this month being less devastating than January. Rest in peace. Image by myself.

Maurice White (74), American singer and founder of the band Earth Wind and Fire. Several of their songs made it to our car USB stick, including Fantasy, September and Boogie Wonderland.
Joe Dowell (76), American pop singer, best known for his American #1 hit Wooden heart (charting in the USA years before the more famous Elvis Presley version).
Umberto Eco (84), Italian novelist. I have read his most famous book, The name of the rose.
Piotr GrudziƄski (40), Polish guitar player and founder member of the prog rock band Riverside. They made some of the best albums of this century, including Out of myself, Second life syndrome and Love, fear and the time machine.
Peter Marlow (53), British news photographer. Remembered for his political images, from Thatcher to Blair.
Douglas Slocombe (104), British cinematographer. He worked on the brilliant first three Indiana Jones movies.
George Kennedy (91), Academy Award winning American actor. I will always remember him as Captain Ed Hocken in the hilarious Naked Gun movies, playing opposite Leslie Nielsen.
