Nothing's real

Nothing's Real is the 2016 debut studio album written and produced by British synthpop musician Shura. The cover design is a clever play on the title, but works very well as an image itself. I could not find information in the designer.

Into dust

Courtesy of the local library, I have been watching the brilliant TV series House MD from the start over the past few weeks (currently in season 6). One of the charms of many episodes is the use of alternative pop/rock songs in the soundtrack. Perhaps the best one of these is Into dust by American duo Mazzy Star. Art Rock score: 8/10 (great song, I'd put it on my MP3 player).

Lady with beads

Another beautiful painting by the Dutch artist Kees van Dongen (1877-1968), one of the Fauvists. This one was made around 1923. More on van Dongen in the wikipedia article linked to below.

Windows Vista

This is a shot of a window on the other side of the local canal, at the right tie of day to capture the sun-lit houses behind the photographer in the reflection. One of my most faved shots of recent weeks.

The scavenger bride

The scavenger bride is the eleventh album by the band Black tape for a blue girl. I love the way the colour scheme matches the band's name.

Harbour

A shot I took a few weeks ago in the local harbour (5 minutes walking from our home). A good example of order in chaos, and the beautiful lighting helps as well. One of my most faved shots of the year so far.

Exposure: 0.005 sec (1/200)

Coming back to life

A painting by my wife that is almost 10 years old, and that many people in Kampen see every day: it is the basis of our gallery sign, hanging proudly in the Oudestraat.

Ten years of Art for Art's Sake

I started this blog on August 4th, 2006 - making today its tenth birthday (image created at Big Huge Labs). The currently archived posts do not go back further than October 2008, because at that time I made a fresh start, deleting everything that I had posted before. My little blog has become a teenager. Sniff.

Landscape At Cadaques

Time to feature French painter Andre Derain (1880-1954) once more. This landscape from 1913 shows a mixture of post-impressionism and cubism. More on Derain in the wikipedia article linked to below.
