The Artrockometer: my music scoring system

It's not something everyone appreciates, but I like to express my personal evaluation of music pieces numerically. I had some system for pop/rock songs (also used in this blog), and a different system for classical music compositions (also used in this blog). I have recently revamped and harmonized them, going for a six points system as a good compromise between number of tiers and possibilities to distinguish the music. Obviously every lower score excludes the music ending above it - this for the clever dicks who react to this system with remarks like "so your favourite songs don't end up on your MP3 USB stick?" And the main reason to put this in the blog is to have an easy reference I can link to whenever I'm using my scoring system. For the same reason, it may be adjusted and/or extended in the future. And of course, any rating is a snapshot in time and may change in the future....

Classical music compositions

6/6 "hors concours", one of about 100 most favourite compositions.
5/6 "essential", a must-have for my CD collection.
4/6 "important", I really like to have it in my CD collection.
3/6 "good to have", OK for my CD collection, no big deal if not.
2/6 "not required", I don't need this.
1/6 "no thanks", I really prefer not to hear this.

Pop/Rock music songs

6/6 "hors concours", one of about 200 most favourite songs.
5/6 "essential", one of about 500 next favourite songs.
4/6 "important", songs I would put on my MP3 USB stick.
3/6 "good to have", OK to hear it on the radio.
2/6 "not required", I don't need this.
1/6 "no thanks", I really prefer not to hear this.

Pop/Rock music albums

6/6 "hors concours", one of about 50 most favourite albums.
5/6 "essential", one of about 500 next favourite albums.
4/6 "important", albums I've considered for the 5/6 rating.
3/6 "good to have", OK for my CD collection, no big deal if not.
2/6 "not required", I don't need this (maybe just for completion).
1/6 "no thanks", I really prefer not to have this.
