Vintage advertisement posters are much sought after, and have been recognized for their artistic merit as well giving us a chance to look at days gone by. There have even been dedicated exhibitions of such posters in art museums. I like these nostalgic images and will post a few grouped per theme. Today's theme is "La Bella Italia", travel posters promoting Italy. The image above is created via Photofunia and is free from copyright issues.
Explore Italy
Explore Italy in a dozen vintage posters. It would be fun to drive around in an iconic Italian scooter, but browsing them in this post is also not bad.
The Amalfi Coast
A weird poster to start with: "Travel to Tuscany" - yes please, my favourite part of Italy - to visit the Almalfi Coast... Come again? That's about 500 km from Tuscany!
Venice
An
intriguing poster, because it shows that Venice in those days was
considered a somewhat exotic location. Reminds me of my own youth in the
sixties, when Spain was considered an exotic country in Holland. How
times have changed.
The Dolomites
Capri
The famous island of Capri in the Bay of Naples - never visited it, but as a kid I already listened to songs about it (especially German Schlagers like Caprifischer).
Tuscany
As stated earlier, Tuscany is my favourite region in Italy: the old cities, the wine, the local restaurants, the wonderful climate, and the landscape. Spent a number of holidays there, and always enjoyed them immensely.
Speaking of old cities in Tuscany... this is the queen of them all, the incomparable Florence (or Firenze to use the Italian name).
Verona
Moving up north again, to the city of Verona that forever will be linked with the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet.
Naples (Napoli) is the city that lies under the shadow of the Vesuvius volcano, regarded as one of the most dangerous volcanoes in the world. Never been there myself. Yet.
Garda Lake
On the southside of the Alps, some of the most beautiful lakes of Europe can be found, partially in Switzerland, but especially in Italy. The Garda Lake is a personal favourite. The combination of infe weather, beautiful lake views, mountains and old villages is breathtaking.
Sicily
Taormina is on the kargest island of Italy, Sicily. Remnants of thousands of years ago, blue Mediterranean Sea, and the Etna volcano looming in the background - what a combination. One dau I hope to visit.
But for now, we bid farewell to lovely Italy, and do so by returning once more to Tuscany with a poster that is a bit more stylized than the others, but very beautiful. Ciao Bella!
