Creative ads: guerilla marketing

Before the re-start early this year, Creative Advertisements was one of the subjects of the blog. I will continue to feature them, in a mix of old and new, grouping them around themes. Today's theme is guerilla marketing - constructing advertisements by using opportunities in real life. The image above was made with Photofunia.

Buckle up!

When you already have a billboard, you can still go the extra mile to create something special - like in this advertisement for back seat seat belts. Use them - or get catapulted out of your chair if you do not. Effective in-your-face advertising.

Pantene

Using an existing location as an integral part of a 3D advertisement is highly creative - and this one from Shanghai for Pantene shampoo is one of the best I have seen.

McDonalds

Creative advertising using items already at hand in the street is a very challenging prospect. This is one of the best I have seen so far: McDonalds converting a lamp post into a free coffee dispenser.

Frontline

A stunning ad by Frontline, one of the best sold anti-flea products, in what must be one of the largest advertisements around. The drawback of course is that you can only appreciate it from the higher levels.

Mondo Pasta

As so often, the trick is to spot the opportunity in the first place, like visualizing the ship's ropes as pasta - then it is just a matter of applying huge stickers and you're done.

YKK

I'm not 100% OK with this advertisement for YKK zippers, as it poses a safety hazard. But I have to grant that it is a brilliant display of creativity in advertising.

Miele

Another brilliant example of using a billboard with extras - in this case a balloon. A strong message about the sucking power of this brand of vacuum cleaners.

Nationwide Insurance/Coops Paints

Maybe the most elaborate guerilla advertising campaign, which must have cost a bundle and annoyed the people who normally park there (and of course annoying people is not a good thing in advertising), But it is clever.

Mister Clean

Simple and effective - just cleaning (or re-painting) one of the zebra stripes, add a sticker and you're done.

IWC’s Big Pilot’s Watch

Another example of having the eye to spot the opportunity, and the rest is easy an cheap. Simply love this one.

Durex

OK, one naughty one. All it costs is seven stickers and you have a fun advertisement that lots of people in the target group will see.

Jeep

The previous Creative Ads post was all about minimalism - here we have a prime example of that in guerilla marketing. Simply brilliant and brilliantly simple.
