Movie posters need to be immediately appealing to lure the potential customer into the cinema. Some though go way beyond appealing and are really artistic. I will share some of my favourites in this blog, aiming for a grouping of twelve around a certain theme. The theme for today's post is Quartets: only three movies but four different posters each. And every single one is worthy of inclusion on the blog. The image above is made via Photofunia and is free from copyright restrictions.
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003). The final installment in the fabulous trilogy, directed by Peter Jackson, and starring (among many others) Viggo Mortensen (first poster), Andy Serkis (Second poster), Liv Tyler (third poster), Elijah Wood (fourth poster), Ian McKellen , Sean Astin , Orlando Bloom, John Rhys-Davies and Cate Blanchett. This trilogy might be the first to go for many posters to highlight the various characters separately (IMDB link).
Black Swan (2010). A Darren Aronofsky movie starring Natalie Portman, Mila Kunis, Vincent Cassel and Winona Ryder. A different approach here: these four posters really stood out (and still do) because of their fabulous Art Deco style (IMDB link).
The Great Gatsby (2013). A Baz Luhrmann movie that has become a symbol (like the novel on which it is based) of the roaring twenties and the Art Deco time. These aspects are reflected as well in the posters. Many of the cast got their own poster, including (from top to bottom) Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan, Elizabeth Debicki, and Isla Fisher (IMDB link).
